The Scarlet Heart
Author: Allison Williams
Synopsis: The Scarlet Heart is a gem! Literally. A big fat juicy apple of a ruby that everyone really, really wants and will do anything to get. Too bad there's not one competent thief in the bunch. Stupino! That's a soup ladle! Stop making goo goo eyes at the soup ladle! Join Arlecchino, Brighella, Columbina, and more in their hungry, thirsty, bungling, cross-dressing quest for the Scarlet Heart.
Characters:
Brighella - Leader of the thieves, male character, masked.
Arlecchino - A trickster and thief, male character, masked.
Stupino - A very dumb male thief, male character, masked. Treats objects as though they are people.
Pantalone - A rich old miser, male character, masked.
Capitano - A braggart soldier, male character, masked. He frequently swings from bravery to cowardice and back again.
Pulcinella - The oafish and put-upon owner of the Hotel Amatta, male character, masked.
Flavio - Vain, insecure, in love with being in love (and with Flaminia.) Male character, unmasked, carries an elaborate lace hankie.
Flaminia - Vain, very secure, in love with being in love (and Flavio.) Female character, unmasked, carries a mirror and lipstick.
Columbina - A trickster and servant, female character, masked or unmasked, carries a feather duster.
Francesca - A cynical maid and friend to Columbina, female character, masked or unmasked, carries a different feather duster.
All "masked characters" may be played by male or female actors with or without masks, though the characters should be played as their indicated gender. If chosen not to use masks, stylized makeup and/or facial hair can be very helpful. It's possible to make both Brighella and Pulcinella female characters played by women, in which case Brighella's disguise is a male servant. Stupino can also be a female character played by a woman, in which case she's Stupina, disguises herself as a male servant, and falls in love with a "male" ladle.
NOTES: The Scarlet Heart may end up being performed as an improvisational production. This means that while the basic skeleton of the script is followed, the rest of the interaction is left to the actors' discretion within appropriate, in-character boundaries.
6:15 on the 104

Characters:
Blair - a writer, inclined to be overlooked in crowds.
Mavis - a secretary, will talk to anyone.
